Best Band Style Of 2012

And just like that, we're officially one week into December and THAT much closer to the end of the year. While we countdown to new beginnings and fresh starts in 2013, we're recapping our favorite style moments from 2012. We're hitting all the important areas we can before our speakers start playing Auld Lang Syne. From celebrity nail art to magazine covers, Instagram selfies to facial hair and everything in between!

It's one thing for individuals to have exemplary style. (*ACHEM* If you haven't voted in our Readers' Choice: Best Dressed of 2012 poll yet, you should probably do that!) But it's another thing entirely for a band (of multiple people!) to pull off individual outfits but still look cohesive. With the epic resurgence of boy bands (thanks, One Direction and The Wanted!) and plenty of OG comeback stories, the well-dressed ensemble group was not that rare a thing this year. Thus, we bring you the best band style of 2012.

ONE DIRECTION

I mean, OBVIOUSLY. The dudes of 1D have become the very definition of this era of boy band style. They may coordinate like the groups of old, but their look is fresh because rather than wearing carbon copies of the same outfit five times over, they pick a color scheme and try to create unique looks around that, paying special attention to ensure variety (e.g. only one red pant, multiple red shirts are permitted if one is printed, someone MUST wear suspenders, etc.).

THE WANTED

The Wanted

The dudes of One Direction may be roughing up and getting chest tattoos, but The Wanted is more of the bad boy band on today's pop music scene. Probably from all the wearing bras on their heads and NOT posing with puppies and stuff. Their group style is generally more tailored, sleek, and edgy.

BACKSTREET BOYS

Backstreet's back, alright! Backstreet Boys reunited for an adorable Old Navy commercial for "every body" (rather than "everybody"). They've since ditched the all-white airplane hanger ensembles and are working distressed denim, easy white t-shirts and the occasional hat.

SPICE GIRLS

We did say it was a big year for comebacks, right? The Spice Girls reunited this year, complete with an EPIC London Olympics performance wearing high fashion versions of their Spice uniforms.

DESTINY'S CHILD

Destiny's Child celebrated 15 years since their first single with the release of The Very Best Of Destiny's Child playlist. Beyonce posted this glamorous picture of the trio to her website, inspiring us to take a look back at DC's 15-year style evolution.

2NE1

K Pop had a GIGANTIC year in 2012, partly because of "Gangnam Style" and partly because the genre is CHOCK FULL of boy bands and girl groups. MTV Style has a soft spot for 2NE1 thanks to their propensity for all things bold and colorful and their enviable closeness with Jeremy Scott.

BIG BANG

Speaking of bold and colorful... We are OBSESSED with Big Bang. The K Pop boy band is a five-dude unit of unbridled energy, hyper-saturated streetwear, tonsorial risk-taking, and uhh, they wear MINX NAILS SOMETIMES. *faints*

FUN.

Not only is fun. nominated for six Grammy awards in 2013, the trio is super consistently well-dressed and frankly, pretty under-appreciated for their sartorial savvy. Despite not really bothering to consciously coordinate their outfits, any time you put three well-groomed guys wearing clothes in adventurous patterns and colors THAT FIT, it's likely to be a win.

HAIM

Newcomers HAIM, much like the dudes of fun., are effortlessly cool. The three sisters all have very different but equally awesome senses of style with a heavy emphasis on vintage gems and '90s influences.

NO DOUBT

No Doubt came back in a huge way this year, and is it just us or is Gwen Stefani aging backwards?? We knew her knack for style would never fizzle out (and it's clear now more than ever), but geez, what kind of hydration plan is this woman on? #needthat But it's not just Gwen who's killing it in this group. Check out Tony's contrast texture lapeled blazer. And Tom's murdered out ensemble complete with a luscious leather. And don't even get us started on Adrian's entire look: black shirt, white bow tie, double-breasted polka dot blazer, sateen finish trousers, and crisp white patent creepers. SO. GOOD.
